The Best Brunch in Newcastle Upon Tyne

There is nothing more comforting than a good brunch on a Sunday morning. Whether it’s a simple Eggs Benedict, a full English, or a stack of pancakes to satisfy your sweet tooth, brunch offers something yummy for everyone’s palate.

Luckily, Newcastle Upon Tyne is full of hidden brunch gems. This colourful city is not only known for its beautiful bridges and vibrant nightlife scene, but it is also a haven for food lovers. Abundant in pubs, cafes, and restaurants, Newcastle offers a wide range of brunch options that can satisfy every craving.

So, where are the best brunch spots in Newcastle?

Smoke & Sear, Heaton

Heaton is an oasis of foodie treasures, with gorgeous eateries on every corner. Smoke & Sear, nestled on Heaton Road, is a bright café that offers incredible barbecue and grill dishes as well as a fab breakfast menu. Their menu is compact but high-quality, and uses local products to create their brilliant dishes - the supplier being the Block & Bottle Butcher & Craft Beer shop just a few doors down!

Smoke & Sear have a fantastic brunch menu, which includes their classic Smoke & Sear Breakfast, a homely Full English packed full with local produce such as Block & Bottle bacon and sausages, Northern Rye sourdough, and even homemade tomato sauce!

The Steak & Eggs also deserve an honourable mention, and if you’re craving something sweet, you can’t miss out on their delicious, fluffy Croffles (croissant waffles!)

Quay Ingredient, Quayside

Quay Ingredient is easily one of the best located cafés in Newcastle. Tucked underneath the iconic Tyne Bridge, this quaint, independent coffee shop serves good coffee as well as a delicious brunch menu.

Serving brunch until 3pm every day, Quay Ingredient is a perfect option if you can’t make the breakfast rush (or just want a few more hours shut-eye!). Olive & Bean, City Centre

Olive & Bean is a café based in the centre of Newcastle behind the iconic Grainger Market. This independent coffee shop is a feast for the eyes - as well as the stomach. Its décor is gorgeous and rustic, and the atmosphere is always vibrant and warm. Not to mention the beautiful counter of cakes and treats that catch your eye on arrival!

Olive & Bean offer both a breakfast and lunch menu, so whether you’re after the perfect avocado on toast or a warm sandwich and salad, there is definitely something to tickle your fancy. One thing I love about the Olive & Bean menu is that you are always spoilt for choice as it is chock-full of different delicious dishes and ingredients!

Aidan’s Kitchen, Sandyford

Aidan’s Kitchen is the definition of a hidden gem. Like Heaton, Sandyford is a popular suburb that houses the trendiest new food spots - one of which is Aidan’s Kitchen.

Aidan’s Kitchen is the go-to café for a hearty breakfast dish. Using fresh ingredients and sourcing locally roasted coffee, Aidan’s Kitchen focuses on quality. With freshly cooked food, generous servings, and great service, AK offers great food as well as a great atmosphere.

I can never choose between sweet or savoury, but this time I satisfied my sweet tooth with the Biscoff French toast which was just as good as it looks. Side note: make sure you’re hungry beforehand!

There is also a smaller version of Aidan’s Kitchen in West Jesmond - Little Aidan’s - which offers just as much delicious goodness. Well worth a try!
