Floaty Linen & Neutral Co-Ords: A Lisbon Lookbook

From floaty linen pieces to slinky co-ords, a sun-kissed Lisbon in May is the perfect backdrop for showcasing your spring/summer wardrobe.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who is ready to say goodbye to the dark evenings and winter cold.

Fortunately, spring getaways and summer trips are just peeking over the horizon, and soon we’ll be swapping our fur coats and chunky knitwear for brighter colours and lighter layers. While the UK won’t be offering us a strong dose of Vitamin D any time soon, an overseas getaway is the best bet for debuting our new seasonal wardrobe.

Last May, I did just that, escaping to Lisbon for four days as the first hints of summer kissed the air. Lisbon is a gorgeous city lined with winding cobbled streets and stunning coastal views. Its authentic yellow trams rattle down the city’s hills and meander through the beautifully colourful architecture. It’s definitely a place for good food, good views, and good fashion.

During my visit, the sun made a glorious appearance during the day and allowed for floaty summery fits, while as the evening crept in, the temperature dipped enough to make the addition of a coat incredibly welcome.

With a mix of summer heat and lingering spring chills, what clothes did I pack for a holiday at this time of year?

Holiday Outfit Inspiration

Floaty Linen Pieces

Linen is the ultimate lightweight and breathable material when in a hot climate, and it can be styled so effortlessly. One of my favourite outfits from my Lisbon trip was a linen trouser and shirt combo.

I paired wide-leg trousers (H&M) with a simple neutral cami top and linen shirt (H&M) of a similar shade, along with my brown Adidas Spezials and Zara handbag. I loved the co-ord look of the ensemble even though these were not part of a set!

The graceful drape of wide-leg trousers, particularly when in a neutral colour, creates such an effortlessly elegant silhouette. Not only did it look effortless, but it also kept me a bit cooler in the midday heat. The neutral colours were also a perfect contrast to the vibrant colours of the city’s architecture! Understated, simple, yet practical. It was a win-win really.

Side note: I would highly recommend bringing comfortable shoes or trainers when visiting Lisbon as there are a lot of hills and lots of walking!

Neutral Florals

As the spring/summer season begins to blossom, floral prints are ideal for brightening your wardrobe and injecting some life into your outfits.

For a visit to the LX Factory on a gorgeously hot day in Lisbon, I paired a mini white linen skirt with a floral bardot top (both H&M). I’m a total sucker for a bardot neckline as they’re so flattering, and this top was no different!

This outfit was just right for the warm weather and soaking up some sun on a rooftop bar. Again, I paired this with my brown Spezials and a pair of sleek sunnies. Perfect.

The next day I styled a floral halterneck with a neutral tube skirt (Pull&Bear) and my linen shirt for those moments in the shade.

Brown Maxi Skirt Co-ord

A co-ord is such an easy way to make a statement with your outfit.

For an evening of sunset watching followed by a rooftop meal, I paired a brown maxi skirt (Stradivarius) with an asymmetrical off-the-shoulder top (Bershka) and a pair of strappy sandals. A jacket was also essential for the evening chill.

This outfit was actually a DIY co-ord (don’t ask me how I managed to find two items in the exact shade of brown, it’s still a mystery to me), and it worked beautifully!

I loved this look as it felt super dressy but also super comfortable. It looked so gorgeous during the golden hour - the coastal views at Cais do Sodré are just incredible!

Knitted Maxi Dress

This dress is one of my all-time favourite items. This Motel knitted dress was perfect for an evening out and kept me warm in the cooler temperatures - no need for a jacket! This dress definitely has a certain je ne sais quoi—a gorgeous pattern, a flattering taupe hue, and a silhouette that hugged the body in all the right places. It’s since become a staple item in my wardrobe!

I paired the dress with my Spezials and Zara handbag, and their brown and taupe tones complemented each other perfectly. It would also pair beautifully with a pair of neutral heels!
